Dear Navy Family,
It seems each day we wake up to new information and news regarding COVID-19 and the return of sports. The latest information as you undoubtedly know by now, is the Notre Dame football team is not able to visit Annapolis as we expected due to their ACC Conference directives. Not being able to play Notre Dame this year has much more meaning than just another game on the schedule. However, our agreeing to an extension of our contract to continue to play through 2032 reinforces the fact that this historic and cherished relationship will endure.
On the other hand, now playing BYU, a program of national stature, on September 7
th on national television from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium gives us a matchup of great significance.

Although our Ticket Office will be sending out information very shortly, first accommodation for tickets to that game will be to our season ticket holders who have committed season-long support for the team. BYU delivers the five home game season ticket package that we all initially expected. With social distancing and safety requirements in place, it’s possible we may only be able to accommodate our season ticket holders for all home games this season. However, if our season ticket holders do not meet allowable attendance levels, we will present ticket opportunities to the general public.
On another note, as you know, on July 13 the Patriot League announced their decision to suspend intercollegiate competition this fall. Because the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy are unique in their missions within higher education, the Patriot League Council of Presidents approved that the academies may continue to engage in competition.
(Click here to read full release). Though this announcement leaves a silver lining for our Navy fall programs, it’s unfortunate for our Patriot League members whose student athletes will not be able to compete.
Despite continued uncertainty on a number of fronts, there remain many reasons to be optimistic. Just a few weeks ago, the Plebe Class of 2024 successfully took their Oath of Office in T-Court. Similarly, the football team has returned to the Yard and have completed their 14-day quarantine allowing them to begin practice in preparation for BYU.
These past months have been difficult for many—families and communities struggling to find footing in this “new normal.” For our student-athletes, coaches and staff, this is no different. That said, the midshipmen are confident in our resolve to forge a way forward through these uncharted waters and continue to rely on your loyalty and support for their programs.
Together with your continued unwavering commitment, we will continue to plan for successful Navy sports this year. Today your investment in our midshipmen is more vital than ever. We are truly grateful to each of you and are counting on your sustained investment in our future. Together we will find a way to prevail.
