ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) _ Kyle Herm passed for 102 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 91 yards and another score in Rice's 21-13 victory over winless Navy on Saturday.

The Owls improved to 5-1, while Navy dropped to 0-5 with its third consecutive homecoming loss. The Midshipmen have lost 14 of their last 15 games in Annapolis.

Robbie Beck ran for 79 yards and Clint Hatfield 72 as the Owls rolled up 276 yards against the nation's worst rushing defense.

Herm threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Matt Webber in the first quarter after Navy opened the scoring on David Hill's field goal. Herm scored on a 7-yard run at 12:40 of the second quarter, and connected with Beck on a 30-yard scoring completion at 1:22.

Navy, which did not get inside the Rice 20 in the first three quarters, finally got a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Brian Madden's 65-yard pass to Marlon Terrell and a facemask penalty combined to give Navy a first down at the 13.

Navy was stopped on fourth-and-inches, but an offside penalty gave the Mids a first down at the 1, and Madden punched it in with 8:02 left in the game.

Rice took the ensuing kickoff and controlled the ball for better than six minutes, reaching the Navy 12. But the Owls lost the ball on Vincent Hawkins' fumble. Matt Brooks recovered and returned the ball across midfield with 1:35 remaining. But Navy could do nothing, gaining only 2 yards on four plays and giving the ball up with 27 seconds left.

Madden was held to 94 yards on 34 carries, the first time in eight career starts he has failed to gain 100 yards rushing.
