ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Senior kicker David Hills (Latham, N.Y), junior defensive tackle Josh Brindel (Ward, S.C.) and sophomore punter John Skaggs (Pensacola, Fla.) have been named to the Collegefootballnews.com All-Independent team.
Hills, who was selected to play in the Blue-Gray All-Star game on Christmas Day, made 15 of his 16 field goals this year and 24 of 28 in his career. He made a career-long 47-yarder in his final collegiate game against Army.
Brindel recorded 44 tackles, fifth most on the team and the most by a defensive lineman, and tied for the team high with seven tackles for a loss. Brindel had his best game on national television, coming up with seven tackles and forcing a fumble at Notre Dame.
Skaggs averaged a school-record 44.8 yards per punt, breaking the 60-year old school record held by Bill Busik, who averaged 43.8 yards per punt in 1941. His 44.8 yards per punt was the fifth best punting average in the country.
