ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The smallbore team of George Adams (Sr./Pearl River, N.Y.), David Bachta (Sr./Colorado Springs, Colo.), Scott Cohick (Sr./Oak Harbor, Wash.) and Bill Tolson (Jr./Oak Harbor, Wash.) will represent the eighth-ranked Navy rifle team at the 2001 NCAA Rifle Championship in Columbus, Ohio, March 10-11, the NCAA announced Friday.

"I am really pleased that we qualified in smallbore as high as we have," Navy head coach Bill Kelley said. "When I look at the scores that have been fired this year, to have qualified fourth out of 32 teams is really impressive."

Tolson will also compete in the Individual Smallbore Championship. Of the 221 competitors across the country, Tolson and Adams finished in the top-10 percent. Tolson had the highest finish for the Midshipmen, scoring a 1165 and posting the 13th-highest score in the country. Adams was 18th nationally, shooting a 1161. Matthew Emmons of the University of Alaska-Fairbanks posted the top score nationally (1196).

Other notables for Navy (9-1) included Bactha who shot a 1157, finishing 27th, while Luke Shank ( Jr./Fort Wayne, Ind.) shot a 1152 to finish in 34th. Marta Jung (Fr./Reno, Nev.) was 55th (1141) and Cohick finished 55th (1140).

Navy will be back in action March 3 when it competes in the Middle Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship.
