ANNAPOLIS, Md.-- Marta Jung (Fr./Reno, Nev.) was recently selected to the United States Women's Rifle Team to compete at the World Military Shooting Championships to be held at the Finnish Regimental Range in Lahti, Finland in July.

Jung is one of three members selected to the team. She joins Mary Elsass and Karen Manges of the U.S. Army's Marksmanship Unit. Jung will compete in individual and team events in smallbore prone and 3-position. Often called "the World Military Olympics," the championships are governed by the International Council for Military Sports (CISM) which has more than 110 members. Approximately forty countries will participate in the Championships.

"This is an outstanding accomplishment for Marta," said Navy rifle coach Bill Kelley. "She has had a great season, making significant improvement. While she has not reached all her goals this year, the opportunity afforded her as a member of the CISM team will go a long way in her development as both a shooter and a naval officer. CISM events are truly top international competition and Marta will be able to interact with military personnel from throughout the world as she represents the U.S. and the Navy."

Many Olympic athletes are members of their countries CISM shooting teams. The U.S. men's rifle team typically includes Olympians and World's Champions. Many previous CISM champions have been winners at world cups and the Olympic Games.

"Marta is moving into a higher level of competition than she has previously experienced," said Kelley. "She knows that she will need to work hard to be successful at these championships. But if her previous work ethic is any indication of her commitment to excellence, I think she has a great chance to do well against the world's best."
