Gonzaga Named Assistant Football Coach

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -Naval Academy head football coach Charlie Weatherbie announced Monday that he has hired Adam Gonzaga as an assistant football coach. Gonzaga will assist defensive coordinator Rick Lantz with the linebackers as well as coordinate the defense for the junior varsity team.

"Adam will be a great addition to our staff," said Weatherbie. "He has a solid coaching background and is an extremely hard worker."

Gonzaga comes to the Naval Academy from Greenville College in Greenville, Ill., where he served as defensive coordinator for the past two seasons.

He has also had stints at Connecticut (1998), where he coached the defensive ends, outside linebackers and special teams; Lafayette (1997-98), where he coached the defensive line, special teams, and was the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator; Montana State (1996), where he coached the secondary; Pacific (1993-95) where he coached the special teams, linebackers and secondary; and was the football recruiting assistant at Stanford (1992).

Gonzaga is a 1992 graduate of Azusa Pacific with a B.A. in education. He is married to the former Heidi James and they have two children, Alexis and Addison.
