Jasper Named Quarterbacks And Fullbacks Coach

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Navy head coach Paul Johnson announced Friday that Ivin Jasper has joined his staff as the quarterbacks and fullbacks coach. Jasper, who coached at Navy from 1995-96, returns to the Academy after serving as quarterback and fullbacks coach the last three years at Georgia Southern.
"Ivin is a lot like Kenny (Niumatalolo) in that they both know this offense inside and out," said Johnson. "They both played quarterback for me at Hawaii and they have both been offensive coordinators. Ivin is an extremely hard worker who is an excellent recruiter. He will be a big asset to the staff."
"It is great to be back at the Naval Academy," said Jasper. " I am excited to be back, because I know we can win here. The kids here will play hard for you; we just need to instill in them the belief that they can win. Coach Johnson's system works. It has worked everywhere he has coached, including the Naval Academy. It is going to take a lot of hard work by a lot of people, but we wouldn't be here if we didn't think we could win."
In three seasons at Georgia Southern, Jasper helped lead the Eagles to a 38-6 record and back-to-back NCAA Division I-AA National Championships in 1999 and 2000.
As Georgia Southern's quarterbacks and fullbacks coach, Jasper played a key role in the coordination of the Eagles? explosive triple-option offensive attack which ranked number one in the nation in rushing (323.64), 25th in total offense (409.55) and eighth in scoring offense (37.27) in 2001.
In addition to directing the efforts of four-time All-America fullback Adrian Peterson, Jasper also nurtured the growth and confidence of quarterback J.R. Revere, who became the school's first signal-caller to lead Georgia Southern to a national title in his initial year as a starter.
In 1999, Jasper fine-tuned the development of Southern Conference Player of the Year and All-America performer Greg Hill, who during his senior season became the first player in NCAA I-AA history to rush (3,309) and pass (3,369) for over 3,000 career yards.
Prior to his appointment at Georgia Southern in January 1999, Jasper served as offensive coordinator at Indiana State during the 1998 season. As quarterbacks and fullbacks coach, he helped ISU turn in a 5-6 overall record, an improvement from a three-win season in 1997. He also coordinated an offense which averaged nearly 15 points and 100 yards more per game than the previous season.
Before assuming the offensive coordinator's position at the Naval Academy
Prep School in Newport, R.I., in 1997, Jasper spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Navy in 1995 and 1996 handling the quarterbacks, fullbacks and slot backs.
Jasper, 31, is a 1994 graduate of the University of Hawaii where he got his bachelor's degree in criminology. He was a three-year letterman for the Rainbow Warriors (1991-93) at quarterback and slot back, where he helped lead Hawaii to a Western Athletic Conference title and a victory over Illinois in the Holiday Bowl in 1992.
A native of Los Angeles, Jasper and his wife, Donna, are the parents of a daughter, Dallas (6) and a son, Jaylen (2).
