Navy Rifle Opens Season Against Norwich

The 2002-03 Navy rifle team will open its season against Norwich Saturday morning at the USNA Rifle Range in Bancroft Hall. The Mids will be looking to improve on its sixth-place national finish from last season, which included a 10-1 record. Team captain James Kauber (Burlington, Wash.) is the team's lone returning All-American, as he earned the honor following the 2000-01 campaign. Junior Marta Jung (Reno, Nev.) and sophomores Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) and Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.) were members of the quartet that represented Navy at the NCAA Championship last March. At the NCAAs, Miller finished 12th overall in air rifle with a score of 384. "I expect that we'll do pretty well against Norwich," said fourth-year Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We're tired of shooting against ourselves. I know our team has respect for Norwich and what they have accomplished. They're a good team, as they had a couple people at the NCAA Championship last year. I know it's one of those situations where if we don't do our job, we're not going to win. We've got to do our part, and I expect we will."
