Navy Rifle Knocks Off VMI, 6,139-5,484
The Navy rifle team used nearly a 450-point edge in the smallbore discipline to defeat VMI Saturday morning, 6,139-5,484. In the smallbore, sophomore Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) led the team with a career-high 1,167. It marks the second-straight match he has registered a new career high this season. Other scorers for Navy included captain James Kauber (Burlington, Wash.) with 1,149, sophomore Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.) with 1,148 and freshman Billy Carson (McDonough, Ga.) with 1,142. Overall, Navy outshot the Keydets 4,606-4,158 in the smallbore. In the air rifle, junior Marta Jung (Reno, Nev.) registered a team-high 390 in leading the team to an 1,533-1,326 advantage. Kauber totalled 383, while Albright and Miller each shot 380. "I thought we showed an improvement over last weekend's match against Norwich," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We're not anywhere near our potential yet, but Albright was solid and Jung had a good day. We have a lot of work to do before next weekend's President's Trophy."
