NORFOLK, Va.-Ryan Harvey's one out single on the first pitch from Andy Froistad in the bottom of the ninth gave Old Dominion (2-1) a 5-4 victory over Navy (1-4) in game one and the Monarchs went on to sweep the doubleheader with a 5-3 victory in game two. The Mids left 22 men on base in the two games, including 14 in the second game.

"I am a little concerned about our bullpen right now, but it will work itself out. We didn't lose today because of our pitching. Old Dominion committed nine errors, they were begging us to win, and we wouldn't take it. We didn't execute on offense."

Navy starter Rich McDevitt pitched six strong innings in the first game, giving up just two runs, one earned, on seven base hits. He walked one and struck out one. Steve Goocey allowed two runs on two hits in one inning of work, while Ryan Naquin gave up a run on two hits in an inning and a third. Froistad gave up the hit to Harvey, which was the only batter he faced.

Craig Candeto had three of Navy's four hits, while Jake Miller drove in two runs. Neil Brubeck had Navy's only extra-base hit of the game, a double.

In game two, Old Dominion scored four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to beat the Mids, 5-3. Starter Brian Pennell gave up five runs, three earned, on six base hits in five innings on the hill. Matt Cooney pitched three scoreless innings in relief, giving up just one hit. Chris Ashinhurst had two hits and a RBI for the Mids.

Navy and Old Dominion will play the third and final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
