ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Navy men's and women's track & field teams began competition at the 2002 Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday. Through five of the meet's 19 events (the rest to be held Sunday), the men's team is tied for fourth (12 points) and the women are tied for sixth (10 points) in the nine-team affair.

On the women's side, Amanda Hasenauer (Jr./Sebastian, Fla.) continued her impressive season-long undefeated streak in the pole vault. She broke her own meet record with a winning height of 12'6". In last year's meet, Hasenauer won the competition with a leap of 12'1.5".

The men's team also started its meet by earning points in the pole vault competition. The double-threat of seniors Bob Koroly (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and Tom Delaney (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied for second (16'.75") and fourth (15'9"), respectively, in the event.

The only other Navy athlete to place in the top-eight on Saturday was David Hunt (So./Rochester, N.Y.). Competing in his home state, Hunt's 3432 points in the pentathlon placed him seventh overall.
