COMMENTS FROM NAVY HEAD FOOTBALL COACH PAUL JOHNSON ON THE MIDS SECOND DAY OF SPRING PRACTICE
Q. Were you pleased with practice today?
PJ: I don't know, it's hard to say. We tried to put in a lot of stuff and I don't think your ever happy with it, we just have a lot of work to do.
Q. Are you happy with the intensity the team has shown at practice?
P.J. I think the intensity and enthusiasm has been good. We have to learn how to practice against each other without almost having a fight on every play. It's been good though, you have to play with some intensity.
Q. Will it be any different out here on Friday with the pads on?
P.J. Yeah, it should be a lot different, there should be some guys on the ground.
Q. Talk a little bit about the quarterbacks and how they have looked so far?
P.J. Candeto has done OK and other than that there just in a wad. We just have to keep evaluating; they (the rest of the quarterbacks) haven't played a whole lot.
Q. How much of the offense have you put in so far?
P.J. We are going to put a lot in and then come back and work on it. We are going faster than they can absorb right now, but it is good to get it all in and then come back and work on it.
COMMENTS FROM NAVY QUARTERBACK CRAIG CANDETO
Q. How have the two practices gone so far?
CC. We are getting a lot of stuff thrown at us, trying to install everything right away. It has been quite a learning process, but the practices have been pretty intense. The guys have had a great attitude and it is pretty encouraging to see the guys come out with as much fire and intensity and just kind of push through the whole practice willing to learn.
Q. It seems like there is a big difference to the pace of practice this year compared to last year, it looks like you get in almost twice as many plays in practice?
CC: The running we did in the mornings initially set up what kind of pace Coach Johnson and his staff wanted to establish and I don't see any change from that running in the morning to practice now.
Q. Talk a little bit about playing both football and baseball, you're just getting started with the dual role this week, but you have about three weeks where you are going to be doing both.
CC: I am making all the football practices and then working in as many baseball practices as I can and playing the baseball games. It has only been three days, but I can see where it is going to get tough mentally as well physically, but I am just going to have to push through it and do my best.
Q. How about Saturday, you have football practice at 9 a.m. and then you are playing in the Army-Navy Baseball game at 12 noon?
CC: It is going to be an interesting day.
