CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy infielder Chris Ashinhurst (So./Stafford, Va.) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week Tuesday after hitting 12-for-20 (.600) in six games last week for the Mids.
Ashinhurst recorded a hit in all six games, while driving in seven runs and tallying three three-hit games to raise his average from .220 to .344 overall. His RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored teammate John Cocca (Sr./Whitehall, Pa.) to give Navy an 8-7 victory over Lehigh Monday. He also scored four runs and drew three walks during the week, in which he played both second and third base after starter Jake Miller (Jr./Santa Maria, Calif.) went down with an injury.
Ashinhurst is second on the team with a .344 batting average, second in walks (12), second in on-base percentage (.452) and tied for fourth in RBIs (13). He is the first Navy player to earn player-of-the-week honors this year by the league.
Navy returns to action May 9 at 3 p.m. when the Mids play host to George Washington at Max Bishop Stadium.
