Q. What caused you to miss practice today?
A. I strained my hip flexor yesterday, so I'll be out just a day or two. Hopefully I will be back tomorrow.
Q. Have you been able to pick up things in the offense watching practice you might not have seen while you were playing?
A. Yes. I started taking mental reps in meetings and put two and two together when I come out onto the practice field, then I watch the other slotbacks in my position and do the same thing. I learn from what they do on the field.
Q. But I am sure you would rather be out on the field?
A. Yes. I'm eager to get back on the field right now.
Q. Practice started a week ago today. How is the comfort level with the new offense compared to day one for the team? Is everyone feeling more comfortable? Is the speed a little bit quicker?
A. As the days go on we are getting more comfortable. Right now we are still in a learning process, but everything is more comfortable. We learn a couple of new things each day, and start to feel more comfortable with the things we have done in the past. The speed is going well, the tempo is good, so with time we will be all right.
Q. How did you spend your summer?
A. The first four weeks of my summer I spent in San Diego on a cruise on the USS Cleveland. The second block I was in summer school. Then I spent two weeks at home with the family and came back here at the start of camp.
Q. What type of ship is the Cleveland?
A. It's a dock landing ship.
Q. Did that maybe decide for you that you really want to be on a ship or really don't want to be on a ship?
A. It really didn't give me that much of an experience on the ship. They didn't want the Midshipmen to be involved in everything that goes on on a ship. There were only certain things we were able to do, so I didn't get that much of a look at ship life, but I enjoyed everything so hopefully I might be on a ship someday.
Q. If you decide you don't want to be on a ship, what other service options are you thinking about?
A. Marine Corps.
Q. What is the allure of that for you?
A. I just like to get down and dirty and go running through the woods like they do.
Q. Counting the days until the first game?
A. Not really. Just getting ready to play everyday.
