The premiere of the 2002-03 Navy Coaches' Show will air Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m., live from O'Brien's Oyster Bar & Grill on Main Street in downtown Annapolis and on 1430-AM WNAV. The show, featuring head football coach Paul Johnson and host Bob Socci can also heard on the internet at www.wnav.com.
This year's show has been expanded to 60 minutes and will feature questions from the live audience as well as listeners. Callers may query Coach Johnson by calling 410-267-7777 locally and toll free at 1-888-345-WNAV outside the Annapolis area.
The weekly show will also include visits from numerous other Navy varsity sport coaches and administrators. Johnson will also answer selected e-mail questions. E-mail your questions to sstrasem@usna.edu
Thursday's broadcast will represent the first of many Navy airings this academic year and mark more than 50 years of coverage by "Annapolis' Hometown Station". WNAV first began carrying Navy sports in 1950 with coverage of the men's basketball program. This year's coverage will include the weekly coaches' show, football, men's basketball, women's basketball and lacrosse. All Navy broadcasts can also be heard on the internet at www.wnav.com.
Host Bob Socci is returning for his sixth year of association with Navy Athletics. Socci will also call the play-by-play for the bulk of the broadcast schedule. Once again Pete Medhurst will fill-in on play-by-play and contribute to the football and basketball broadcasts with features and commentary. Socci will be joined in the football broadcast booth by best-selling author John Feinstein and former Green Bay Packers General Manager Ron Wolf.
Navy's first play-by-play broadcast of the season will be Saturday, August 31 at SMU with the tailgate show, hosted by Pete Medhurst and Joe Miller, kicking things off at 6:30 (EST).
