Josh Smith Named To All-East Football Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Navy sophomore safety Josh Smith (Attica, Ind.) has been named to the 2002 All-East football team as selected by the Division I-A head coaches in the ECAC. Navy senior offensive tackle Derek Jaskowiak was an Honorable Mention selection.

Smith led the Midshipmen with 127 tackles, 53 more than his next closest teammate. Smith also recorded one tackle for a loss, picked off two passes, broke up three passes, recovered two fumbles and forced two fumbles.

Smith recorded double-digit tackles in six games-SMU (14), Air Force (10), Rice (18), Boston College (15) and Connecticut (21).

Smith and the rest of the Midshipmen kick off the 2003 campaign on Aug. 30 when Navy plays host to VMI in a 1:30 p.m. contest at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Season tickets are currently on sale at the Naval Academy Box Office in Ricketts Hall or by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY.
