Navy Rifle Continues Winning Streak at Coast Guard

The Navy rifle team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 6145-6073 victory over Coast Guard Saturday.

Navy recorded a team season-best 1547 in the air rifle discipline, as they took control of the match behind sophomore Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.). Albright returned to his home state and paced the team with a career-best 392 in the discipline. Other scorers for Navy included Marta Jung (Reno, Nev.) with 389, Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.) with 386 and team captain James Kauber (Burlington, Wash.) with 380.

In the smallbore portion of the match, the Mids were again led by Albright, as he recorded an 1159. Miller and Kauber each registered an 1155 with Jung posting an 1129 for the team score of 4598.

"I thought it was a good match despite some cold weather conditions on the line," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We have a lot of work to do and are looking forward to next weekend against Alaska-Fairbanks."

The Mids will return to action next Saturday at 8 a.m. as they travel to Palmyra, Pa., to face No.-1 ranked Alaska-Fairbanks.
