Navy Rifle to Face No.-1 Alaska-Fairbanks Saturday
The Navy rifle team will square off with No.-1 ranked Alaska-Fairbanks Saturday morning, as part of the Palmyra (Pa.) Invitational at the Palmyra Sportsmen's Association. The Midshipmen currently stand at 4-0 on the season, including a 6145-6073 victory last Saturday at Coast Guard.
Sophomore Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) continued his record-breaking season Saturday against Coast Guard by shooting a career-best 392 in the air rifle. His score was the top mark for the Navy quartet that posted a season-best 1547 in the discipline. Other scorers for Navy included captain James Kauber (Burlington, Wash.), junior Marta Jung (Reno, Nev.) and sophomore Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.).
"I think the team is preparing well and looking forward to facing the No.-1 team in the country," Navy head coach Bill Kelley said. "As a coach, I'm looking to see how we measure up against them. It should be a good, competitive match, and I'm expecting good performances from our team on the line."
The Nanooks are the reigning four-time NCAA Champions and are paced by several USA Shooting National Team members.
