Mids Capture MAC Championship in Rifle Saturday

The Navy rifle team captured the Middle Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship in the smallbore discipline Saturday at the Bancroft Hall Range. The teams could not compete in air rifle due to a busted sprinkler head in the range.

Navy's team score 2329 set a new conference smallbore record, which was led by sophomore Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) with a match-high 591. Captain James Kauber (Burlington, Wash.) recorded a career-best 587, while sophomore Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.) registered a 581. Junior Marta Jung (Reno, Nev.) rounded out the quartet with a 570.

"This was probably our best overall team match of the season," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "We performed really well today, as the top-three scores were about as high as we've shot all season. It's nice to see Kauber get a career-best score in his final match at the Bancroft Range."

Other team scores included Navy's opponent in the master division, Coast Guard, with a 2222, Norwich (2216), MIT (2151), U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (2140), Canisius (2135) and Duquesne (1695).
