Paul Johnson Press Conference For Monday, August 11

8/11/2003 - Football
Paul Johnson Press Conference For Monday, August 11

Q. What are your impressions of the team after the first week?

A. We look like a team that?s practiced for one week. Certainly we have some individuals that have improved themselves over the summer and gotten better. We just have to maintain our focus for two hours when we?re out here at practice. That seems to be a struggle. We need to continue to work to get better. We?re not where we need to be.

Q. Is it the kind of thing where you think that maybe they?ve seen each other so much that they are ready to go against somebody else?

A. I don?t think so. We?ve only had the pads on for three days. If anything that ought to help you as far as knowing where to go and who to take and all those kind of things. It?s just a question of being focused and dialed in.

Q. Is there anyone or one particular group that looks exceptional?

A. It would be hard to single anybody out. A couple of the receivers had good summers and look to be improved, but it would be hard for me to single anybody out.

Q. Talk about the fullback compeition. How have the guys responded so far?

A. We?ve only been in pads for just a few days and Bronston is probably the only one that has practiced the full practice every day. Today was the first day back out for Michael Brimage (ankle). He brings some things to the table. They all bring some things to the table. It?s still up in the air as far as who?s going to start, but they are all probably going to play some.

Q. How does Kyle (Eckel) look so far coming off his knee injury?

A. I think he?s back. He?s just has some post-op stuff that you?re going to have after surgery. He looks to be fine.
