Transcript of Slot Back Trey Hines' Press Conference

Thursday, August 21, 2003 (Press conference was conducted after practice on Tuesday)

Q. You are the only freshman on the two-deep on the offensive side of the ball. How do you evaluate your performance so far?

A. The first thing I had to do was learn the plays and now it's about executing the play correctly and if I can do that maybe I can earn myself some playing time.

Q. Do you think you have a grasp of the offense or are you still learning it?

A. I'm still learning how to execute the plays.

Q. How long did it take you to learn the offense?

A. I went to NAPS so I already had a basic foundation of what was going on, but once I got here it was a whole different level. It took me all of training camp to get it down.

Q. Is it the speed of the game that makes it so much different from prep school?

A. It's definitely a new level of speed.

Q. How do you feel physically after going through Plebe Summer?

A. I'm a little worn out. I'm still trying to get my legs back.

Q. What did they put you through physically?

A. Oh man (laughter). The hardest thing for me was just chopping all day long. Coming out for pep in the morning and running a couple of miles, that's a good workout and everything, but then they want you to come back and chop around Bancroft all day.

Q. I don't know what chopping means; give me an idea of what that is.

A. Lifting your knees up everywhere you go. Basically running everywhere.

Q. All day, wherever you go?

A. Basically. They call it moving with a purpose (laughter).

Q. What was tougher, plebe summer or football camp?

A. I would say football. It was a whole new level for me. The speed, the coaches, the players.

Q. So far are you having a good time?

A. I'm having a good time.
