Navy Rifle Team Sweeps Three Opponents

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Navy rifle team had a strong weekend, outscoring three opponents by an average of 203 points in defeating Norwich on Saturday and MIT and Wentworth on Sunday. With the victories, Navy improves to 5-0 on the young season.
On Saturday, Navy outscored Norwich, 4642 - 4537, to earn the victory. Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) led the Mids with a combined score of 1173 (585 in smallbore and 588 in air rifle). The Mids had scores of 2318 in smallbore and 2324 in air rilfe, compared to Norwich's 2276 and 2261 respectively.
On Sunday, the Mids tallied a score of 4573 to easily defeat MIT's 4407 and Wentworth's 4234. Albright scored a 590 in smallbore to lead Navy while Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C.) paced the Mids with a 593 in air rifle. Navy had scores of 2298 in smallbore and 2275 in air rifle.
?There isn't really much to say,? said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. ?We have just got to shoot better. We didn't perform anywhere near our capabilities this weekend. We have got to get better.?
Navy will compete at the Coast Guard next weekend for the President's Trophy. Action will get underway at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
