Mids to Face Lady Bison in Volleyball Tuesday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- After placing itself in a position to control its own playoff fortunes, the Navy volleyball team will step out of conference play for one final time this season when the Midshipmen play host to Howard Tuesday night in a 7 p.m. match in Macdonough Hall.

Navy will then close the Patriot League season with matches Friday against Lafayette and Saturday against Lehigh, with both matches slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Macdonough Hall. Victories by the Mids in both matches assures Navy of a berth in the Patriot League playoffs.

"Tuesday's match may not count towards our Patriot League record, but a lot of good can still come out of it," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "We played really well this past weekend and Tuesday we can work on keeping our momentum and rhythm going strong. It is also an opportunity to take us one step closer to reaching 20 victories on the season.

"We traditionally play tough matches against Howard, and I expect Tuesday to be no exception."

Navy won a pair of Patriot League matches this past weekend in Macdonough Hall, defeating both Colgate and Bucknell in four games. The wins improved Navy's league record to 6-6 on the year and its overall mark to 18-8.

Navy has defeated Howard in four-straight seasons, but three of those matches lasted five games, including last season's 31-29, 30-24, 29-31, 23-30, 15-11 contest in Washington, D.C.
