Navy Lacrosse Dismantles Colgate, 21-6

ORLANDO, Fla. - Ian Dingman (Deferiet, N.Y.), Dwayne Osgood (Penn Yann, N.Y.) and Conor McKenzie (Allison Park, Pa.) combined to score 13 of the Mids' 21 goals to lead ninth-ranked Navy to a 21-6 rout over Colgate in a Patriot League battle played on the campus of the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Fla., Saturday afternoon. Navy improved to 5-1 on the season, including a flawless 4-0 league mark, while Colgate dropped to 2-4 and 0-1 in Patriot League play.
Navy never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 3-0 lead less than three minutes into the game thanks to a pair of Dingman goals, along with a score by sophomore middie Steve Looney (Silver Spring, Md.).
The Mids outscored Colgate 5-2 in the first and owned a 13-4 lead by halftime. Navy shut out the Raiders in the third, outscoring them 5-0, and finished off the fourth stanza with a 3-2 scoring advantage.
Dingman led the Mids with five goals, tying his career high which he set in Navy's season opener at Lafayette. Additionally, he provided two assists for the Mids.
Osgood came into the game having scored just one-career goal, but turned in a four-goal effort against the Raiders. McKenzie, a sophomore who played on the JV team last season, not only recorded his first-career goal, he registered four goals for Navy. Joe Bossi (Skaneateles, N.Y.) (3), Ben Bailey (Memphis, Tenn.) (2), Steve Looney (1), Graham Gill (Medford, N.J.) (1) and Billy Looney (Silver Spring, Md.) (1) accounted for the remaining Navy goals.
Navy owned a decisive 25-6 face-off advantage over the Raiders. Junior Chris Pieczonka (Hamburg, N.Y.) was 14 of 15, while rookie middie Tommy Wallin (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) was 7 of 8. Fellow freshman William Wallace (Bloomfield Village, Mich.) was 4 of 8.
Matt Russell (Madison, Conn.) handled the keeping duties for the Mids for just over half the game, playing 39 minutes and giving up four goals while producing a pair of saves. Freshman Colin Finnegan (Arnold, Md.) played in his first collegiate game, giving up a pair of goals and making a save.
The 21 goals for the Mids marks the most goals scored by since March 21, 1987, when the Midshipmen recorded a 21-10 victory over Delaware. Its 15-goal victory is Navy's largest margin of victory since it defeated Academy rival Air Force, 17-2, March 29, 2000.
Navy returns to action next Saturday when it travels to West Point, N.Y., to face arch rival Army. The Black Knights are 4-1 this season thanks to a 12-11 upset victory over fourth-ranked Rutgers. Action is slated for 12-Noon at Michie Stadium and will be televised live by College Sports Television (CSTV). Additionally, the game will be brought to you live via radio on 1430 WNAV with Pete Medhurst calling the action.
