Tickets Still Available For Saturday's Sprinfest

4/21/2004 - Men's Lacrosse
Tickets Still Available For Saturday's Springfest

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Tickets are still available for Saturday's Sprinfest doubleheader at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The No. 2 ranked Navy lacrosse team will be in action at 12-noon as they take on the No. 1 ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays.

Given the teams' 1-2 rankings, NCAA Tournament seeding at stake and the prospect of Navy defeating its intrastate archrival for the first time in 30 years, the regular-season, single-game college lacrosse attendance record is in jeopardy. The current record is 19,850, which was set on April 18, 1987, when Maryland defeated Johns Hopkins, 11-7, at Byrd Stadium.

When Navy last played host to Johns Hopkins in 2002, 15,271 saw the Blue Jays emerge victorious with a 9-8 win. Navy and Johns Hopkins have met every season since 1950, with the Blue Jays claiming a 49-25-1series advantage over the Midshipmen.

The Navy football team, coming off an 8-5 season, a trip to the Houston Bowl and winners of the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy for the first time since 1981, will take the field immediately following the lacrosse game.

All eyes will be on junior quarterback Aaron Polanco as he's set to take over the reigns of Navy's high-powered triple option offense. Polanco will lead the Blue squad, which will be made up of the first team offense and second team defense.
Junior safety Josh Smith, who is an All-American candidate in 2004, will lead the White squad made up of the first team defense and the second team offense.

Parking will be available on both the blue and gold sides, while ticket sales will take place at the gold ticket booth and at Gate Z and the drive-through gate on the blue side. Tickets will also be sold at the Class of '53 Pavilion. Will call will be located at the gold side ticket booth.

Tickets are currently on sale at the Naval Academy Box Office in Ricketts Hall or by calling 1-800-US4-NAVY. Tickets are just $3.00, $1.00 for students. Gates will open at 10:30 a.m.
