Cole Wins Mack Award

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Cornerback Lord Cole (Northridge, Calif), who will be a senior this fall, has been named the winner of the Vice Admiral William P. Mack Award as the most improved player during the 2004 spring football drills at the Naval Academy. Cole is the fifth defensive back to have won the award and is the third-consecutive defensive player to win the award, joining teammates Lane Jackson and Bobby McClarin.

"Lord showed good improvement throughout spring drills and he will battle for a starting job in the fall," said Navy head football coach Paul Johnson. "He's one of the faster players on the team, so we would love to be able to get his speed out on the field more."

Cole lettered last fall afterplaying in 12 of Navy's 13 games, mostly on special teams. He is currently listed as a starter at cornerback heading into the fall.

The award was initiated in 1976 and is named in honor of Vice Admiral Mack, the Naval Academy superintendent from 1972-75, and was a strong supporter of the school's intercollegiate athletic program.
