CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy rookie midfielder Billy Looney (Silver Spring, Md.) has been named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Freshman of the Week after a one-goal, two-assist performance in last weekend's 10-9 overtime loss to No. 1-ranked Johns Hopkins. Looney is the first Navy player to garner freshman-of-the-week kudos this season.
Navy's top-scoring freshman with 13 points on eight goals and five assists, Looney has been among the Mids' starting midfield the entire season. He has scored in eight of the Mids' 12 games this spring, including goals against Johns Hopkins, as well as nationally-ranked Ohio State and Georgetown. His two assists against the Blue Jays marked a career high, as did his three points.
Looney, along with the Mids, will face fourth-seeded Colgate in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament Friday. Game time is set for 12-Noon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and will be carried live via the radio on 1430 WNAV.
