Candeto To Be Honored

Washington, DC - The Quarterback Club has announced that its 19th annual National Quarterback Club Awards Dinner will return to Washington, DC for the second straight year to honor many of the nation's elite quarterbacks, including the Naval Academy's Craig Candeto, recipient of the Military Quarterback-of-the-Year Award.? The black-tie gala, which benefits The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, will be held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 29th.? ?

The first family of football, Eli, Peyton and Archie Manning, will be among the other National Quarterback Club honorees.? Legendary NFL quarterback Archie Manning will be the recipient of the National Quarterback Club Hall of Fame Award, while his two sons, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and University of Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning, will be honored with the NFL Quarterback-of-the-Year and National College Quarterback-of-the-Year Awards, respectively.?


The National Quarterback Club will also honor legendary Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, recipient of the Hall of Fame Award; University of Maryland quarterback Scott McBrien, recipient of the Local College Quarterback-of-the-Year Award; the University of Louisville recruit Brian Brohm, recipient of the National High School Quarterback-of-the-Year Award; Virginia Tech University recruit? Sean Glennon (Westfield High School/ Chantilly, VA), recipient of the Local High School Quarterback-of-the-Year Award; and New Orleans Saints quarterback Aaron Brooks, recipient of the Humanitarian Award for his outstanding commitment to the community.?

George Michael, NBC News-4 Sports Director and the host and creator of the nationally syndicated "The George Michael Sports Machine," will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.? The dinner will also feature a special tribute to former Arizona Cardinal and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman, who recently lost his life in the line of duty.? ?


Candeto had a stellar 2003 season for the Midshipmen, leading the team in both rushing and passing.? He threw for 1,140 yards on 64 completions and rushed for 1,270 yards on 271 carries.? He also recorded 16 touchdowns and 96 total points, leading his team to an 8-5 record.? Candeto also excels on the baseball diamond, where he is a three-year letter winner.?


The Quarterback Club, a non-profit organization based in Rockville, MD, was founded by Robert J. Geoghan in 1965 as a social sports organization specifically hosting the Washington Redskins luncheons during the football season.? In celebration of its 20th anniversary, he created The National Quarterback Club and The National Quarterback Hall of Fame. Top quarterbacks from the professional, collegiate and high school ranks as well as inductees into The National Quarterback Hall of Fame have been honored at the National Quarterback Club Awards Dinner.? In addition, Quarterback Club Charities, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, was formed to serve as the charitable arm of The National Quarterback Club. To date, it has raised over $1 million for a variety of local designated charities.? ?
