Two-time All-Patriot League performer Ashley Van Hartesvelt

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Navy volleyball team was picked to place fourth in the Patriot League this year, according to the preseason poll of the league's coaches and sports information contacts.

The Mids received 53 points in the poll to narrowly edge Colgate and Lehigh for fourth place. Both the Raiders and the Mountain Hawks received 49 points to tie for fifth place in the voting.

American, winners of the league in each of their three seasons as members of the Patriot League, received 98 points and 14 first-place votes to again be tabbed as the preseason favorite. Army and Bucknell each received one first-place vote, but the Black Knights received 81 points to place second in the poll, six points ahead of third-place total of the Bison.

Holy Cross received 25 points to place seventh in the poll, with Lafayette placing eighth with 18 points.

Coaches and SID's were not allowed to vote for their own schools.

Navy opens the regular season September 1 by playing host to Saint Francis (Pa.) in Macdonough Hall, then will open the Patriot League season September 23 when American travels to Annapolis.
