Eckel And Smith Named All-East; Polanco Garners Honorable Mention Honors
ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Senior fullback Kyle Eckel (Haverford, Pa.) and senior safety Josh Smith (Attica, Ind.) were named All-East by the 11 Division IA head football coaches in the ECAC. Senior quarterback Aaron Polanco (Wimberley, Texas) earned Honorable Mention honors.
Eckel was a dominant force on the Navy offense, rushing for 1,147 yards and 11 touchdowns. Smith led the defense in tackles for the third-consecutive year, compiling 119 stops, nine tackles for a loss, two sacks, two interceptions and broke up three passes. Polanco might have been Navy's most valuable player as he rushed for 980 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing 61 of his 114 passes for 1,131 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
Navy completed a historic season by defeating New Mexico in the Emerald Bowl, 34-19. The victory was Navy's 10th of the season, the most by a Navy team since 1905.
