•Navy vs. Army Results
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Navy junior Justine Whipple (Duxbury, Mass.) posted the top-overall time of 24:43.89, but Army placed the next five runners as the host Black Knights topped the Midshipmen 20-41 in women's cross country action on Friday afternoon.
"Justine (Whipple) ran an incredible race," stated Navy head coach Karen Boyle. "Army just took it to us. They dominated their home course."
Whipple covered the rain-soaked West Point Golf Course 37.34 seconds faster than any other competitor. The junior has led Navy in all four races she has competed in this season. Whipple's first-place finish on Friday marked the first for her career.
Army landed the next five competitors after Whipple's top-dual meet performance. The Black Knights' second through sixth-place overall runners were separated by 18.10 seconds.
Navy's second-best time came from the legs of junior Erin Demchko (Nanuet, N.Y.), placing seventh overall with a 25:55.25 time.
The eighth- and ninth-place competitors donned Army colors in serving as placeholders to secure the final margin of victory.
Junior Allison Barlow (Orange Park, Fla.) placed 11th overall with a 26:12.61 showing, followed by sophomore Kyleigh Millhouse's (Boiling Springs, Pa.) 26:13.12 time. Sophomore Vicki Moore (Burke, Va.) rounded out the Mids' top-five runners in covering the course in 26:27.60 for 13th-place.
Army has won the previous five meetings against Army, dating back to the 2001 season. The Mids' last N-Star victory came on the grounds of the USNA Cross Country Course in a 20-41 win back in 2000. Although Army has claimed victories in the past five races, Navy owns an 11-9 advantage in the all-time series.
The 2005 Patriot League Championship appears next on Navy's schedule, as the Midshipmen travel to Lehigh's Goodman Campus on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. The Mids finished second at the league championship held at Lafayette last season.
