ANNAPOLIS Md. - Ashley Musser's (Sr., Industry, Pa.) 12 kills and Megan Vehovic's (Sr., Clymer, Pa.) 10 digs helped the Navy volleyball team to a three-game sweep of Coppin State, Tuesday night at Macdonough Hall. The Midshipmen improved to 14-6 on the season with the 30-24, 30-24, 31-29 victory over the Eagles, who fell to 7-19 on the year.

"It was a challenging match for us, but the players responded when we needed them to," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "We tried a number of different lineup combinations tonight so there were some rough stretches, but we worked hard to overcome those down periods and managed to pull out the victory."

Each of the three games were very close, with Navy needing late surges in each to pull out the win. Navy trailed 18-17 in game one before the Mids scored seven of the next eight points to take a 24-19 lead. After the Eagles closed to within 26-24, Navy converted four-straight points to win the game.

Game two was similar to game one, with Navy using an 8-1 run to take a 22-15 advantage before pulling away for the 30-24 win.

Navy also used an 8-1 run to take a 22-16 lead in game three, then held a 29-21 lead before the Eagles scored eight-straight points to tie the game at 29-29. After a Navy kill, Coppin State committed a hitting error to give the Mids the 31-29 victory.

A total of 15 Mids took to the floor against the Eagles, with nine recording at least one kill and 13 hauling in at least one dig. Musser added 14 assists to her 12 digs to record her 10th double-double of the year, while Vehovic's 10-dig effort marked the fifth time this season she has grabbed double-digit digs. Megan Boyd (Jr., Richmond, Va.) had a solid night on both offense and defense for the Mids, tallying eight kills and a .353 attack percentage to go along with a team-high four blocks.

Navy as a team outhit Coppin State .203-.161 and dropped in six service aces to just two for the Eagles. Navy hauled in 45 digs to Coppin State's 42, but the Eagles tallied one more block than the Mids did on the night (8-7).

Brittany Arvin led Coppin State with 12 kills, while Andrea McGant totaled a match-high 14 digs.

The Mids will return to Patriot League play this weekend with matches Friday at Bucknell and Saturday at Colgate.
