LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Navy volleyball team outhit Bucknell .220-.042 on its way to posting a three-game sweep of the Bison, Friday night at Davis Gym in Lewisburg, Pa. The Midshipmen defeated the Bison 30-25, 30-21, 30-23 to improve to 6-3 in the Patriot League and 15-6 on the season, while Bucknell fell to 5-3 in league play and 13-10 on the year.
The victory gives Navy a split of the season series with Bucknell and marked the first Navy winover the Bison in Lewisburg since 2000.
"We really clicked tonight," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "It was a very smooth match for us. We cleaned things up a great deal from the first time we played Bucknell."
In addition to its hitting percentage advantage, Navy tallied 10 service aces and nine team blocks to four aces and three blocks for Bucknell.
Ashley Musser (Sr., Industry, Pa.) tallied 10 kills and 24 assists to record her eighth double-double of the season for the Mids, while also adding a pair of service aces and five digs. Megan Boyd (Jr., Richmond, Va.), who totaled a career-high 10 blocks during the first meeting of the season with Bucknell, knocked down 10 kills, hit .400 and recorded six blocks tonight.
In addition to Musser's play, the additional members of Navy's senior class also played well in the match. Both Andrea Wernecke (Sr., Gaithersburg, Md.) and Megan Vehovic (Sr., Clymer, Pa.) dropped in three service aces apiece, while Wernecke grabbed seven digs and Vehovic recorded nine digs.
Navy will stay on the road for the Saturday match at Colgate.
