WEST POINT, N.Y. - A triple-double by Ashley Musser (Sr., Industry, Pa.) and a double-double from Beth McArthur (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) helped lead Navy to a four-game victory over Army, Friday night at Army in the annual Star Match between the two programs. The Midshipmen defeated the Black Knights, 31-29, 30-26, 24-30, 30-25.
"It was what you would expect from an Army-Navy match," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "Both teams played their hearts out in front of a great crowd.
"I am very proud of how our girls performed under pressure against a very talented Army team. It was a solid effort for us."
Navy outblocked Army 19-8 to help the Mids outhit the Black Knights .210-.164.
Musser tallied her second triple-double of the season with 13 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs, while McArthur added her sixth double-double of the campaign with 14 kills and 18 digs. Andrea Wernecke (Sr., Gaithersburg, Md.) paced the Navy defense with 21 digs to tie her career high.
Additional statistical standouts for Navy included Megan Boyd (Jr., Richmond, Va.) and Rachel Dougherty (So., Derwood, Md.) with four blocks apiece and Jessie Sims (Fr., Etowah, N.C.) with 17 digs.
The Midshipmen improved to 4-2 in Patriot League matches, 12-5 on the season, while the Black Knights fell to 4-1 and 11-3. Navy will remain on the road for a Saturday night match at Holy Cross.
