LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Navy women's swimming and diving team split a pair of meets against Patriot League competition Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa., defeating Lafayette and losing to Bucknell. The Mids defeated Leopards 182.5-116.5 and, in a meet which came down to the final event, lost a 155-143 decision to the host Bison.

Navy started the meet strong, winning the 200 medley relay and the first four individual events of the day. Kelly Zahalka (Fr., Richmond, Va.) recorded a 10:30.75 to win the 1000 freestyle, Rachel Gray (So., Latrobe, Pa.) won the 200 free in a time of 1:55.63, Jennie Spencer (Fr., Smithburg, W. The Mids were outscored by the Bison 16-12 over the next two events, the 200 fly and 50 free, then Katie Griffin (So., Ellicott City, Md.) won the one-meter springboard to give the Mids what would be their last lead of the day at 79-70.

Bucknell won the next two events, the 100 free and the 200 back, and totaled 28 points in the races to Navy's 10 to take a 98-89 advantage, but Navy would rally by winning four of the next five events from the Bison.

Thomas started the Navy rally by winning the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:24.06, then Zahalka won her second event of the day with a time of 5:06.86 in the 500 free. After Navy totaled only three points in the 100 fly to fall behind 132-112, Griffin made it a sweep of the diving events by winning the three-meter springboard with a score of 272.54. Zahalka closed the individual events by picking up her third victory of the day with a win in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:09.23.

Heading into the final event of the day, the 200 free relay, Bucknell held a 142-139 lead over Navy. The Mids needed to win the relay to win the meet, but placed second to the Bison by two seconds.

Navy, 5-3 on the season, will not be in action until Dec. 1 when the Mids play host to Army in Lejeune Hall.
