Transcript Of Head Football Coach Paul Johnson's Comments

Nov. 4, 2005

P.J.: Where's Wagner?

SS: He forgot his driver's license so they wouldn't let him on the Yard.

P.J.: That's a good thing.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about Marshall Green? I think he probably expected to start going into the year and then he wasn't and now he is.

A. Marshall wasn't playing in the first game because he was suspended. It's been a three-man rotation. Those guys have played about the same number of snaps each week. Marshall has been in the program for a while, he understands the offense, and he has played a couple of positions.

Q. What about the other guy in there, Person?

A. He's been banged up a little bit and he's dropped some weight, but he stays in there and fights. He gives you what he has.

Q. Have you seen all the Persons play at Navy?

A. I think Andy was the oldest and he was here when I was here the first time. He played defensive end. Chris may have been a freshman or sophomore when I left. Dan I believe played on my first team back and then Joe.

Q. Which one was the most accomplished?

A. Joe still has his senior year left. Andy was a really good player. I would suspect if Joe works he would be a two-year starter as well.

Q. You said last week that the line had been spotty. Would you say they were on the negative end against Rutgers?

A. Yeah, I would say that everybody was on the negative end against Rutgers. We didn't play very well.

Q. You said you were going to work them hard. Have you done that?

A. I said that we were going to work on some fundamentals and work hard. I think so.

Q. Has this been the toughest week of practice this year?

A. I don't know about that. I don't know if it has been the toughest week, but I think we got some good work in.

Q. You said today was a big day as far as practice goes, how did it go?

A. Well, I will have to look at the film in the morning but I thought it was pretty good. I thought the tempo was pretty good. Offensively, where I was the biggest part of the time, I thought it went pretty well. I was over on the defensive field for just a little bit but it seemed like there was some intensity and there was a little bit of fisticuffs going on. Anytime that's going there is a little intensity.
