Baseball Swept in Three-Game Series Versus Boston College

Annapolis, Md. - The Navy baseball team dropped a 16-0 decision to Boston College in the series finale Sunday and was swept by the Eagles in the three-game series at Max Bishop Stadium over the weekend.

Boston College, who outhit Navy 19-3, improved to 11-6, while Navy dropped its ninth straight to fall to 3-12-1.

The Eagles scored 10 runs in the first four innings and never looked back, as they got great starting pitching from Nate Jeanes. Jeanes (1-0) earned his first win of the season by striking out six and scattering two hits over six innings of work. Jason Delaney led BC's offense by going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and three runs scored. Three of Delaney's RBIs came via a home run in the fourth inning.

"You have to tip your hat to Boston College's pitching this weekend," Navy head coach Steve Whitmyer said. "They attacked the strike zone all three games and were able to get ahead in the count most of the time."

Freshmen Renaldo Hollins (Virginia Beach, Va.) and William Maugeri (Edgewater, Md.) and sophomore Lewis Hobbs (Wilmington, N.C.) accounted for all three of Navy's hits.

Navy hurler Jeff Lange (Springfield, Va.) had a solid outing in relief as he went 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and no walks allowed. Rob Molinaro (Middletown, N.J.) (0-1) got the start for Navy - his first of the season after several strong outings out of the bullpen - and was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

The Midshipmen will return to action next weekend as they play host to Buffalo in a three-game series at Max Bishop Stadium. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon and then face off in the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
