Baseball to Play Host to Georgetown Tuesday
Annapolis, Md. - The Navy baseball team will play host to Big East-foe Georgetown on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., at Max Bishop Stadium.
It will be the seventh contest of a 12-game homestand for Navy (3-15-1), which enters the match-up looking to snap a 12-game losing streak.
The Mids are coming off a three-game series in which Buffalo swept them this past weekend in Annapolis.
One of the bright spots during the weekend was the performance of freshman starting pitcher Mark McCoy (Parkland, Fla.). In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, McCoy went all seven innings and allowed just two runs while scattering five hits in Navy's 2-0 loss to the Bulls. It was the first time all season a Navy hurler has pitched a complete game. It was also the second-straight strong start for McCoy, who has lowered his earned run average nine points (7.11) during that time.
OTHER NOTES:
SERIES: Navy leads the all-time series with Georgetown by a count of 50-27. The Hoyas handed the Midshipmen a 3-1 setback back on March 23 of last season, in the only meeting between the two teams.
NAVY VS. THE BIG EAST CONFERENCE THIS SEASON: Navy is 0-3-1 versus teams from the Big East in 2005. The Mids overcame an 8-0 deficit to tie Villanova (Feb. 20) and dropped a three-game series to Boston College (March 19-20).
SCORING DROUGHT: Navy has been held scoreless in the last 18 innings dating back to the first game of Saturday's doubleheader with Buffalo.
TRAILING: Navy has not held a lead for the last 33 innings. The last time the Midshipmen had a lead was a 2-0 edge over Boston College in the third inning of the second game of a doubleheader back on March 19.
STARTING A LOT OF NEW FACES: Navy fields one of the youngest teams in the Patriot League. Freshmen or first-year players have combined to start every game at first base, shortstop and center field this season. The total number of games started from all three positions is 57.
McCOY ONE OF THE FEW: Mark McCoy is just one of five pitchers in the Patriot League this season to throw a complete game.
MARCH NOT A GOOD MONTH: Dating back to last season, Navy has dropped 15-straight contests in the month of March.
