Rifle Captures MAC Championship
Lexington, Va. - The Navy rifle team captured the MAC Championship Saturday by defeating Akron by a score of 4,665-4,493 in Lexington, Va.
The Mids defeated Akron by a score of 2,324-2,235 in the smallbore competition and posted a 2,341-2,258 victory in air rifle.
"I felt pretty good about the performances today," Navy head coach Bill Kelley said. "We still have some room to improve, but I'm pleased with our consistency."
Senior captain Mike Miller (Albuquerque, N.M.) recorded Navy's top score in the smallbore event with a total of 588, while classmate Matt Albright (Shelton, Conn.) totaled the team's second highest score at 583. Freshman Josh Albright (Shelton, Conn.) was third with 577 points and sophomore Chris Schneider (Fort Mill, S.C.) was fourth with 576.
Matt Albright posted a top score of 588 points in air rifle with Schneider following in second with 587. Miller scored a 586 to place third, while sophomore Sarah Bergman (Fort Mill, S.C.) was fourth with 580 points.
Navy will be in action March 10-12, as it concludes the 2005 season by competing in the NCAA Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo. The championship will begin at 8 a.m.
