Annapolis, Md. - The Navy baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to Lafayette Sunday at Max Bishop Stadium. The Leopards scored six runs in the eighth inning of the first game to pull out a 9-4 victory and then posted a 10-4 win in the second contest.

Lafayette improved to 13-19 overall and 3-5 in the Patriot League, while Navy dipped to 9-24-1 overall and 4-8 in league play.

Navy held a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning of game one, which was scheduled as a seven-inning game. However, Lafayette rallied for two runs in the sixth to tie it at 3-3. The Mids had a chance to pull out the win in the seventh as they put runners on the corners, but could not score. The Leopards pushed across six runs in the eighth to seal the victory.

Adam Bucci went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Lafayette offensively. Reliever John Fugett pitched two innings to earn the win and even his record at 2-2.

Jonathan-Matthew Johnston (Hamilton Township, N.J.) went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI triple and a run scored. Reliever Kevin Heasley (Cincinnati, Ohio) suffered the loss and fell to 1-2, as he yielded two runs on one hit in just 1/3 inning of work. Burgess Nichols (Boston, Mass.) started and lasted seven innings, but did not factor in the decision.

The Mids took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning of the second game, but Lafayette scored four times in the frame to go on top for good.

Navy also didn't help its cause by committing six errors in the contest.

Matt Lukevics (Tampa, Fla.) led Navy with two RBIs in the contest on his triple to the wall in left-center field. Ryan Hefner started for Navy and suffered the loss by yielding four runs - only one earned - on three hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Navy will be back in action Wednesday as it travels to Fairfax, Va., to face George Mason at 3 p.m.
