Baseball Drops 14-1 Decision at George Mason

Fairfax, Va. - George Mason scored six first-inning runs on the way to a 14-1 victory over the Navy baseball team Wednesday afternoon at Spuhler Field in Fairfax, Va.

Mason improved to 22-11, while Navy dropped its third straight game in falling to 9-25-1.

Five Colonial pitchers combined to limit the Mids to four hits, including starting pitcher Tyler Wingerd, who worked five innings and struck out three while allowing just one base hit. Wingerd earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Chris Fournier led Mason offensively by going 3-for-4 with five runs batted in and four runs scored, including a pair of home runs. Chris Looze, Robby Jacobsen and Adam Innerst each chipped in two RBIs apiece for the Colonials.

Navy starting pitcher Tom Van Dan (Haworth, N.J.) lasted just one inning and was touched up for six runs on seven hits in falling to 0-3. Jonathan-Matthew Johnston (Hamilton Township, N.J.) went 1-for-1 and scored Navy's lone run.

The Midshipmen will be back in action Saturday and Sunday as they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face Lehigh. Both days will feature doubleheaders beginning at noon.
