Matt Lukevics went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the 8-3 victory over Georgetown.

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Navy baseball team scored five second-inning runs and then got three seventh-inning runs to stop a Georgetown rally and defeat the Hoyas, 8-3, on Wednesday evening. The win improves Navy's overall record to 12-28-1 overall, while Georgetown drops to 21-23.

After a scoreless first inning, the Mids exploded for five second-inning tallies to take a 5-0 cushion. Matt Lukevics got the Mids on the board with a single that plated Jared Munde, who had walked. James Lee, Lewis Hobbs, Trevor Thompson and Mitchell Harris also had an RBI each in the inning.

Georgetown cut into the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Ryan Craft belted a solo homer to left center to trim the Navy lead to 5-1.

The Hoyas crawled to within 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth, but Navy answered in the top half of the seventh with a three-spot. The Mids executed a perfect double-steal in the frame for their first run, then Lukevics roped a double down the left-field line and Doug Silverman added a run-scoring groundout to round out the scoring. Georgetown could manage just three baserunners in its final three at-bats and the Mids cruised in for an 8-3 victory.

Navy used three pitchers, each going three innings in earning the victory. Daniel Kovalcik, Burgess Nichols and Kevin Heasley scattered nine hits and one walk, while combining to strike out 10. Lukevics led the Navy offensive attack that pounded out 10 hits with three hits and two RBI. Navy committed no errors while the Hoyas had one.

The Mids will be in action next this weekend with a four-game set at arch-rival Army. Action gets underway on Saturday at noon with a doubleheader and concludes with a doubleheader at noon on Sunday.
