Schade Performs Well at US Junior Olympics

Christina Schade placed 25th at the US Junior Olympics in the 10-meter air rifle.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Navy rifle team member Christina Schade (Eagle River, Alaska) pieced together two solid rounds at the United States National Junior Olympics 10-meter air rifle competition held at the Olympic Training Center. Schade finished 25th out of 87 shooters, scoring a 766.

"I am more than happy with Christina and her performance," said Navy head coach Bill Kelley. "She has worked hard all year, qualified for the tournament as an at-large competitor and really performed well. She shot right about where she does in practice and her scores are just phenomenal for a girl just getting started in the sport. This is a huge confidence boost for her."

Schade, a freshman, joins four male members of the team that performed well in the same event. Her finish gave the Navy contingent four placings in the top 40 of their respective classes.

In the first round, Schade fired a 380 to find herself in a 35th-place tie. However, her score of 386 in the second round was 16th-best score of the round, and catapulted her into 25th place overall, just nine points out of the top ten. Jessica Jasis from Kentucky was the overall winner with an 881.8 (three rounds).
