Baseball Swept by Army in Sunday's Doubleheader

West Point, N.Y. - The Navy baseball team was swept in its doubleheader versus Army Sunday at Johnson Stadium in West Point, N.Y. The Black Knights pulled out a 6-1 victory in the opener and came from behind to post an 11-5 victory in the second game.
With the wins, Army captured the Star Series, marking the first time since the 2000 and 2001 seasons it won back-to-back Stars over Navy. The Black Knights took three of four from the Midshipmen last season in Annapolis to capture the series.
Army improved to 30-10 overall and 16-3 in the Patriot League to win the regular season championship. Navy fell to 12-31-1 overall and 6-13 in the league.
The Midshipmen jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two and a half innings of the second game on the strength of a three-run homer and an RBI double from Jared Munde (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.). Munde's home run in the first inning easily cleared the left field wall and smacked off the side of a building across the street from the stadium. D.J. Faldowski(Washington, Pa.) drove in Navy's other run in the third on a sharp groundball back through the middle of the infield.
However, Army mounted its rally and scored 10 runs over the following five innings -- including a five-run fifth -- to go in front. Walker Gorham smacked a solo homer in the third and followed with a two-run shot in the fifth to highlight the scoring. Nate Stone added a two-run blast in the sixth.
The Black Knights overcame four errors in the contest to post the victory.
Army jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the opening inning of the first game on an RBI single from Gorham and a run-scoring double by Jeremy Stache. The Black Knights added to their lead in the fourth inning as Kyle Scogin put them up 5-0 with a two-run homer that cleared the wall in left field.
Mitch Harris (Mt. Holly, N.C.) drove in Navy's lone run in the contest with a bloop single to center field in the fifth inning, bringing home Mike Garcia (Kailua, Hawai'i) on the play.
Both teams will conclude the series Monday with the finale at noon.
