TREVOR THOMPSON NAMED FIRST-TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

ANNAPOLIS, Md.--Navy baseball senior captain Trevor Thompson (Kent, Wash.) continued to pile up the awards Wednesday as he was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-America team. Thompson joins 11 others on the elite team that is selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Thompson, who graduated last Friday at the top of his class and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship in November to study at the prestigious Oxford University in England, posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.95 in honors history. In his first seven semesters at the Naval Academy, Thompson posted a 4.0 GPA in five of those semesters and made the Superintendent's List all seven times. He was also selected into the Navy SEALS program.

Thompson is just the sixth baseball player in school history to be named Aan cademic All-American and the first since Mike Leeney in 1986.

Thompson was a standout on the diamond as well as the classroom as he was a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection this spring. He led Navy in batting with a .322 average and posted career highs for average, hits (37), runs scored (15), runs batted in (14), doubles (6) and stolen bases (18) in a single season.
