• Attendance announced as 35,670, the fourth-largest crowd to see a game at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium behind: 1. 36,172 vs. Air Force (Oct. 11, 1997), 2. 36,009 vs. West Virginia (Oct. 3, 1998) and 3. 35,753 vs. Air Force (Oct. 9, 1993).
• With its 41-38 loss, Navy dropped to 0-2 on the season, marking the first time since 2001, Charlie Weatherbie's last season as head coach, that the Mids opened the season 0-2.
• The loss also snapped the Mids' home-game winning steak in which Navy had won eight straight at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium dating back to the Nov. 1, 2003, victory over Tulane.
• Stanford's 41 points are the most scored by a Navy opponent at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium since Duke scored 43 on Sept. 28, 2002.
• Stanford and Navy met tonight for the first time since the two schools battled in 1965 which resulted in a 7-7 tie.
• The Mids are 4-6-1 all-time against the Pac-10 ... Navy last played a Pac-10 team in 1996 when it rallied from 14 points down to upset Cal, 42-28, in the Aloha Bowl.
• Navy's 248 yards through the air are the most by the Mids since they threw for 329 yards in a losing effort against Tulane (51-30) on Oct. 26, 2002.
• Navy produced more yards through the air (248) than on the ground (235) for the first time since its 21-17 loss against Delaware on Nov. 1, 2003, in which Navy produced 212 yards passing and 180 yards rushing.
• Slot back Karlos Whittaker finished the contest with a career-high 110 yards, becoming the first freshman in the program's history to rush for 100 yards in a game ... he is the first Navy slot back to produce a 100-yard rushing game since Eric Roberts rushed for 125 yards against Rutgers on Sept. 27, 2003.
• Lamar Owen's 193 yards passing are the most since Craig Candeto threw for 201 against Delaware on Nov. 1, 2003.
• Senior slot back Marco Nelson's 17-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown at 2:34 in the opening quarter marked the first time Navy has returned a fumble for a touchdown since Dec. 2, 2000, when Brad Wimsatt scrambled three yards against Army.
• On the ensuing kickoff, Stanford's T.J. Rushing returned the ball 93 yards to score a touchdown ... the last time a Navy opponent returned a kickoff for a TD was Nov. 9, 2002, when Notre Dame's Vontez Duff ran the ball back 92 yards.
• Marco Nelson tacked on his second touchdown of the evening with 5:33 remaining in the first half (1-yd. run) and his third on a 54-yard reception from Lamar Owens in the fourth quarter (12:38) ... he entered the season with just one-career TD ... it's the first time since last year's Emerald Bowl in which a Navy player has scored three touchdowns in a game.
• Marco Nelson finished the game with a career-high 98-yard receiving game, bettering his previous mark of 70 against Air Force on Sept. 30, 2004.
• Lamar Owens' 54-yard touchdown pass to Marco Nelson at 12:38 in the fourth quarter marked his first-career touchdown strike and was the Mids' first passing touchdown of the season.
• On his third carry of the evening (13:34, 2nd), Karlos Whittaker scored on a 44-yard touchdown run, his first-collegiate TD ... first freshman to score a TD since Trey Hines' four-yard TD run against Tulane on Nov. 1, 2003 ... the touchdown run was the longest rush by a Navy player this season, as well as the longest touchdown run.
• Junior linebacker Rob Caldwell's sack at 11:39 in the second quarter marked his first-career sack ... after recording a career-high 13 tackles in last week's season opener against Maryland, Caldwell broke his personal best with a 14-tackle (5 solo, 9 assist) effort against the Cardinal.
• Navy's defense stopped Stanford at the one-yard line on the final play of the first half with sophomore safety Greg Sudderth stripping Stanford quarterback Trent Edwards.
• Sophomore kicker Joey Bullen made his first-collegiate field goal, a 39 yarder which narrowed Stanford's lead to 28-24 in the third quarter (10:21).
• Junior corner back Jeremy McGown returned to kickoffs for 54 yards, including a long of 38 yards in the second half ... it was the longest kickoff return of his career, bettering a 34 yarder in 2004.
• Marco Nelson's 23-yard kickoff return in the first quarter was the first of his career.
• Freshman Tyree Barnes 34-yard reception with 3:07 left in the game was his first-collegiate catch.
• Sophomore Adam Ballard ran in his first-collegiate touchdown of four yards with 2:09 remaining in the contest ... he finished the contest with a career-high 36 yards on three receptions, while he posted 37 yards on 13 carries.
• Junior QB Brian Hampton threw for a career-high 55 yards, completing three of his 10 passes.
