ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Navy wins three doubles matches and one singles match on final day of Navy Invite.
Navy won two of the three matches in doubles play. The freshman tandem of Jason Hill (Atlanta, Ga.) and Johnny Waters (Papillion, Neb.) won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. The Mids also won at No. 3 when Alex James (Visalia, Calif.) and Adrian Lai (Tucson, Ariz.) teamed up for a thrilling 9-8 (4) victory.
However, the momentum was short-lived as Maryland took five-of-six singles matches. The lone Navy win came from Lai at No. 5 singles. Lai was victorious over Andreas Vaage Nilsen, 5-7, 6-1, 10-8. Lai posted an undefeated mark over the weekend, winning all three singles matches and teaming with two different players in doubles play to win three matches.
"Lai had a fantastic tournament and was our tournament MVP. He played very well this weekend," said Officer.
Despite the loss, Officer took some positives from the weekend.
"Obviously, we are very pleased with our doubles play and with our performance against Richmond," said Officer. "We need to work on our singles some and get ourselves in position to win some more matches."
Navy will compete next weekend at the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., beginning on Friday.
