Complete Release

Myersville, Md. - Freshman David Miller's (Chillicothe, Ohio) 13th-place finish paced the Midshipmen at the Towson Fall Golf Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Musket Ridge Golf Club in Myersville, Md. The Mids finished 11th out of 12 teams with a two-round 28-over par 604 (304-300). Navy was just a stroke out of 10th, as Boston College clipped the Mids with a 27-over par 603 (309-294).

Campbell University ran away with the team championship, shooting a 7-under par 569 (284-285). George Mason earned a second-place finish with a 3-over par 579, while James Madison stumbled in the second-round of action to post a third-place finish with a 5-over par 581. The Dukes were just three strokes behind Campbell after the first round, but their 6-over par 294 on Tuesday cost JMU an opportunity to win the team title.

Campbell sophomore Fredrik Sundberg earned the individual title with an 8-under par 136. He shot an opening round score of 6-under par and was 2-under in the final round. He was nearly caught by George Mason's Mike Cavanaugh who shot the low round of the tournament with a 7-under par 65 in the final round and placed second in the tournament with a 5-under par 139 (74-65).

Miller was right on cue for the Midshipmen, turning in a 1-over par 145 (72-73) in just his second collegiate competition. Fellow rookie Ryan Wielgus (Bethesda, Md.) finished just outside of the top 30 with a 6-over par 150. He posted a 4-over par on the first day, followed by a final-round 2-over par 72. Sophomore Rob Phillips (Munford, Tenn.) tied for 41st with an 8-over par 152. A first-round 6-over par 78 put him behind, but he regrouped Tuesday with a 2-over par 74. Rounding out action for the Mids were sophomore Jeff Sawin (Haverford, Pa.) (78-82) and freshman Eric Stinson (Spotsylvania, Va.) (81-79) who tied for 57th with a 16-over par 160.

The Mids return to action next Monday when they travel to Delaware to take part in the Rehoboth Beach Invitational.
