ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Forty-four members of the Navy Football team volunteered their time on Saturday and Sunday to assist victims of Hurricane Rita and Katrina as part of the Annapolis Cares initiative.

Annapolis Cares is a non-profit foundation established by Dr. Beate Kanamine, a flight attendant who serves as the On Board Leader of Delta Airlines' Critical Incident Response Team.

Donated items are being collected from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, seven days a week in the parking lot of Sam's Club, 2100 Generals Highway, Annapolis, MD, directly across from the Annapolis Mall. A list of items can be viewed at www.annapoliscares.org. Tax deductible donation forms are available.

Annapolis Cares also seeks volunteers to assist with sorting, packing and loading donated items. No sign-up is necessary.

To date, 13 trucks have been delivered to areas including Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The group is working directly with shelters, churches and Mississippi Senator Trent Lott's office to determine critical drop-off locations.
