WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ashley Musser (Sr., Industry, Pa.) totaled 35 assists, 10 kills, five blocks and eight service aces to help lead the Navy volleyball team to a four-game victory over Howard, Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. The Midshipmen improved to 3-1 on the young season with the 30-19, 30-17, 28-30, 30-25 win.
"We achieved almost every objective we set out for ourselves tonight," said Navy head coach Mike Schwob. "We won the match, every player took to the floor and everyone contributed to the victory."
Musser was one of four Mids to tally double-digit kills on the night, with freshman Jessie Sims (Etowah, N.C.) totaling 12 kills to lead Navy. Joining her and Musser in double figures were Rachel Dougherty (So., Derwood, Md.) with 11 and Beth McArthur (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) with 10.
The Mids outhit the Bison .363-.138, thanks in part to Navy totaling 18 blocks to just five for Howard.
"It's good to have this match under our belt and we are excited about our home opener and our tournament this weekend," said Schwob.
Navy will play host to the Trident Classic this Friday and Saturday in Macdonough Hall. The Midshipmen will be in action Friday at 4 p.m. (Delaware State) and 8 p.m. (Niagara), as well as Saturday at 1 p.m. (High Point). Additional matches will be contested Friday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m and Saturday at 10 a.m.
